HER2-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer

Individuals with HER2-positive breast cancer test positive for a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2), which promotes the growth of cancer cells. In one of about every three breast cancers, the cancer cells make an excess of HER2 due to a gene mutation. HER2-positive breast cancers tend to be more aggressive than other types of breast cancers. They're also less responsive to hormone treatment.

The purpose of this research study is to examine the safety and effects of this investigational drug on HER2 cancer cells. Research suggests that treatment with a drug that targets HER2 receptors may slow the growth of cancer or even reduce tumor size. However, this has not yet been proven.

The investigational drug in this research study targets certain HER2 receptors. Some mild to moderate side effects associated with the investigational drug have included abdominal pain, fever, upset stomach, weakness, inflammation of the esophagus, and abnormal liver function tests. Participants in the study will be monitored carefully to minimize these effects, should they occur.
